Boboli Gardens - two views of the Neptune Fountain

These are both "collaborative" efforts with my husband (the reference photographs were taken by him).  They were painted about a week apart, but I thought I would post them together for comparison.

Florence, Italy - Boboli Gardens

This painting is something of a collaboration; the reference photograph from which this painting is based was taken by my husband.  We always find it interesting to compare photographs from our trips, the different things we "see" at the same time and place.

I thought I'd also post some of his photographs (I think he's an amazing photographer - and I hope I'm not too biased).

Lisbon, Portugal - city park

20 November 2010 update: I'd erroneously labeled this as a park in Vienna, Austria.  My apologies to the Portuguese.

about a cat

At risk of cat-overload, here's a number of cat-themed paintings.
9 July 2010 - stretch sleep kitty
graphite and gouache on paper, 7" x 10"
10 July 2010 - pizza!
graphite and gouache on paper, 8" x 8"
These next four were conceived as a set, Tenets to the Good Life, by the Small Grey Cat, a Renowned Lifestyle Expert.  They were all done on 13 July 2010 (8" x 8").
Tenet One: Eating
Tenet Two: Sleeping
Tenet Three: Playing
Tenet Four: Getting Attention
The small grey cat scrupulously follows these simple tenets, as the rest of the paintings attest.

15 August 2010 - cat and human-friend
12" x 8 1/4"
22 August 2010 - innocent until proven guilty

In these last four, the little girl is inspired by my nieces.  The paintings are all 8 1/4" x 12" in size.

Vienna, Austria - Schonbrunn Palace fountain

Schonbrunn Palace was one of our stops in our 2008 Vienna/Budapest trip.  I was inspired to try painting fountains after seeing this gorgeous water painting, which also got me thinking more about some of John Singer Sargent's watercolor paintings and Claude Monet's pond and water lily series.

birthday cards

I made a couple of cards for recent birthdays.  This one was for my dad.

At risk of noting the obvious, I have a penchant for painting paths (and a liking for alliterations).

Last month I painted a number of views of this open space, a little neighborhood park in the hills of Eugene.  Here's the first of the lot.

48 Hour Film Project - Take 2

My husband participated in the Portland 48 Hour Film Project this past weekend; he's part of the team, Take 2.  I'll get to see the results of their endeavors tomorrow evening (Thursday).
I got to contribute a bit, designing their logo, as well as having some of my paintings used for props (way cool, huh?).  I did two versions of the logo.  This is the one they went with:
This is the alternative version:

PPASP paint out

I'm just recently back from Tanner Springs Park as part of today's PPASP's paint out, so thought I'd post the late-breaking paintings.  They're done in gouache and graphite on 8 1/4" x 12" watercolor paper.

May I have your attention, please?

Eugene, OR - river and shores (also, can the Internet solve a mystery?)

Andrew at Topical Salve found a digital camera on the beach in San Diego, California, and is wondering if the Internet can help find its owner.  He's posted a picture of the presumed owner of the camera on his site.
On a more routine note for this blog, here's the latest painting; this and some earlier ones from this month are views along the Prefontaine Memorial Trail.

archive - en plein air in Ireland

I toured about Ireland in 2003.  The paintings are all done on 10" x 14" paper, in gouache.  In a couple of them I was attempting to channel the German Expressionist, Gabriele Munter, whose paintings I really admire.
