Haworth, United Kingdom - Top Withins

16 February 2011
5" x 7", acrylic on paper
During my visit to Haworth to visit the Bronte parsonage (back in 1999 - I can't believe it was so long ago), I walked about the moors.  Not surprisingly, I didn't run into Heathcliff or Mr. Rochester - just a lot of sheep.  I visited Top Withins, thought to be the inspiration for Heathcliff's home, Wuthering Heights.

Bronte country (two versions)

I was looking around via Google maps at the countryside around Haworth, where the Bronte sisters lived, and found this view to paint.  I know this is not a unique experience, but I remember discovering Jane Eyre in high school and feeling like it was a literary epiphany.  It so nicely resonated with my teen angst.  I subsequently began devouring all of the novels by the Bronte sisters (as well as other 19th century British women writers).  As I mentioned previously in a post, I did something of a pilgrimage to Haworth back in 1999.
