Tal-y-llyn Lake

Here's another painting of Tal-y-llyn Lake in Wales; I'd painted a different view of it previously.

a kind of time travel

My painting reference for this was a photograph taken by my mother in the 1960s.  I believe it's a view of the Potomac River.  She was visiting historic sites in and around the Washington, DC.  I came across it as I was perusing some of her photograph albums from her student days.

curated posting - photographs of Amsterdam

Here's the third installment of photographs my husband took during our 2009 visit to the Low Countries.  As with the others I posted previously, 23 December 2010 and  3 January 2011, they're taken with his Nikon FE2, using black and white film.

Eger again

13 December 2010
14" x 20", acrylic on paper
Credit for the reference picture for this painting goes to my husband.  It's from our 2008 trip to Budapest, Hungary (and also Vienna, Austria).

In other news, I recently visited the White Lotus Gallery in Eugene, Oregon.  They had some lovely traditional and contemporary pieces by primarily Asian artists.  The contemporary works often integrated Eastern techniques and themes in their works.  I was rather struck by them since I'm more used to seeing derivations and reactions to European art traditions.  I particularly liked the works of Chang-Ae Song on view, abstracted urban pieces done in Sumi ink on rice paper.  The gallery's website has some examples of her work.

Prague - canal scene

My husband and I visited Prague in 2004.  It was our first adventure abroad together, so I'm a bit more mushy and nostalgic about it.  This painting is a view of the canal in Stare Mestro, Old Town.  The reference photograph was taken by my husband.

silliness

Whenever we travel, our cat gets boarded (and, from what we hear, properly spoiled); a few years ago, though, we had the not particularly original and thoroughly goofy idea of having a "representative" of our cat come along with us.  We found him at the Weiner Prater, an amusement park in Vienna, and he's traveled with us since then.

During our visit to Lisbon in 2006, we checked out the concrete Cristo-Rei across the Rio Tejo, which afforded some spectacular views of Lisbon.

tennis, anyone?

The Australian Open is 10 days away...  Our small grey cat loves it when tennis is on television so he can curl up in my husband's lap while he watches.

return to Luxembourg City, in triplicate

I thought I'd post these three paintings together, as they're roughly the same view, though each from a slightly different vantage.  The first two are based on reference photographs I took, and the third based on one taken by my husband.  They're from our 2009 visit to the Low Countries.

another curated posting - in and around Bruges

I'd posted photographs of Ghent, Belgium taken by my husband in an earlier post.  Here's a second installment of his photographs; they're also from our 2009 visit to the Low Countries.  We rented bicycles in Bruges and rode around the surrounding countryside, along winding backroads and long, straight paths that followed the canals.  As with the Ghent photographs, they're taken with his Nikon FE2, using black and white film.
